Is Affordable Rentals really free? How does pricing work?+
There's no signup fee and no monthly subscription — ever. Instead, a small commission is deducted automatically only from rent your tenants have actually paid that month. If nothing was collected, nothing is owed. Tenants never pay a platform fee.
How do tenants get access to Affordable Rentals?+
Tenants do not self-register. As the landlord, you create each tenant's account from your dashboard. The tenant automatically receives a welcome email with a temporary password and is prompted to set their own on first login.
How does a tenant pay rent?+
From the tenant dashboard, click "Pay Rent", enter the amount and month, then confirm. An STK Push notification is sent to the tenant's phone. They enter their M-Pesa PIN and the payment is confirmed. A PDF receipt is emailed automatically within seconds.
What happens if an M-Pesa payment fails?+
If a payment fails, it appears as "Failed" in the payment history and no funds are deducted. The tenant can attempt the payment again immediately. Common causes include wrong PIN, insufficient balance, or a timeout — all safe to retry.
Is my data safe?+
Yes. All passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Sessions are protected by JWT tokens and every API endpoint requires authentication. M-Pesa credentials are stored with AES-256 encryption and payments are processed through Safaricom's Daraja API.
I forgot my password. What do I do?+
Click "Forgot Password" on the login page and enter your registered email. A 6-digit OTP reset code will be sent to your inbox. Tenants without email access can contact their landlord — they can reset passwords from the dashboard.
